for one more day...

this post is long and fairly boring. the point of this post can be clearly read in the last sentence.

it was a friday afternoon. i had the day off. a couple of days prior, i came across a poem by W.B. Yeats so i decided to visit my local chapters to see if i could purchase a book containing perhaps a compilation of Yeats' poems. to my disappointment, i could not. so being given the bad news by a very helpful middle aged asian female employee, i made my way to the magazine section, hoping to pick up something interesting, if i couldnt get the gold i might as well settle for silver. i find the new issue of slam, the basketball magazine i choose to continue reading after comparing and contrasting a few similar publications when i first arrived to the t dot. like classic slam fashion, there were two covers, one of big ben wallace, the other of amare stouddmire - i went with amare. i examined the car magazines and found nothing of interest, i then looked at the mens interest section hoping to pick up either a maxim or a gq - but nothing, or should i say no one, was interesting enough on the covers to catch my attention so i moved myself away from that section slightly agitated. i picked up another magazine - xxl, for really no good reason and made my way downstairs. unsatisfied with the spoils of the day, i did something i rarely ever do...thats right, i examined the bestseller/discount/new release shevles that are so eloquently put infront of the entrances by the marketing peeps.

it is here that i discovered a small maroonish purple looking book with the familiar name mitch albom on the cover. i quickly think to myself that its probably one of the books ive read already, either the five people you meet in heaven, or tuesdays with morrie. i discovered, it was neither. it was a new book, for one more day. and since mitchs' other books that ive read never failed to disappoint, (although five people wasnt as good as tuesdays simply due to the difference in appeal of fact and fiction) i awkwardly picked it up, attempting to balance the book along with the two magazines that were already in my hand. as with all new books you pick up - i read the back - interesting. i read the inside covers and realize that the story is about a mother-son relationship and poses the simple question - what would you do if you could spend one more day with a lost loved one. it had my attention.

it was a monday afternoon. i went to school. sat in class for about 20 minutes. discovers that class has been cancelled due to professor fluness. i curse a little bit coz i made the trip for nothing that being my only class an all. i get home, do my usual routine and as im sitting there in front of my desk contemplating whether to catch up on my sleep or not, i am strangely and strongly made aware of my immense mental boredom. so i decide to read. first an article from the basketball magazine then the new novel that has had my attention and has been on the back of my mind for the past few days.

once i started reading, i realized this book was again about a real person - a man - a father - a brother - a son. and immediately i felt attatched to it in a way that only human beings can feel towards other human beings and not to robots. and after about 3 -4 hours of reading i was done with another classic. there are many things i could relate to, and other things i could sympathize with. either way the book is awesome, so go read for one more day by mitch albom.
